Justice,USA

Shot over seven months, this six-part series for MAX bears witness to people like Kevin Williams who can’t afford a lawyer, exposing the power that Nashville’s lawyers and judges wield.

Kevin Williams, a man that has been charged with serious crimes, has an appointed lawyer. She rarely answered his calls, didn’t visit him for years, and committed little effort to his representation. As Williams collects evidence to build his own case, it becomes clear to the audience that this is an obvious case of ineffective assistance of counsel.

Judges continue to appoint attorneys who put individuals’ constitutional rights at risk, and now, more than ever, it is crucial for us to unite in their defense.
